Organizing fabric can seem like a daunting task, but it doesn’t need to be. In fact, there are numerous simple and effective ways to organize your fabric stash. 1. Folding Boards to Organize Fabric
This is my favorite way to organize fabric. I use comic boards that are available from Amazon. They make fabric easy to view and pull out for a shelf without messing up the neighboring fabric.
2. Fabric Stash Printable to Organize your Fabric Collection
Keeping track of your fabric inventory is a must! Have you ever wanted to reorder a particular fabric and realized that you don’t remember where you bought it or what is it called?? I started using my free fabric stash printable about 10 years ago and now I have a huge collection of swatches that I can easily access. The one pictured below is available for purchase in my shop.

3. Filing Cabinets

4. Plastic Bins
Get some clear plastic containers with lids in sizes that will make sense for your space. Sort fabrics into these containers by type or color and store them on shelves or in bins as appropriate. This is an easy way to keep everything organized and easy to access when you need it. Plus, if you ever move, all of your fabrics will stay nice and protected in their containers! This is probably the cheapest option as well.
5. Under The Bed Storage
This is a great option for limited spaces. When I lived in a one bedroom apartment, all my fabric was under the bed in this type of storage. I used the bins with rollers for easy access.
6. Hanging Fabric Storage
The next great storage idea is by using the vertical hanging space of an empty closet. Slack hangers are a great way to maximize storage space. Hangers can be found here.
7. Jars for Fabric Scraps
Another great tip is to use large glass jars for fabric scraps. Not only is it a great way to keep keep scraps in one place. It is also a beautiful display!
8. Shelves for Fabric Storage
Next, the display shelves. This is probably the most common method used my most fabric enthusiast. It is not the most convenient way to organize your fabric, but it is usually cheap and effective.
9. Drawers
Another great idea is to use drawers. Drawer organizers come in many shapes and sizes that will fit any dresser. The fabric is easy to access and store.
10. DIY Notion and Ribbon Storage
